The
trouble with medical journals by Richard Smith
A thought-provoking book from someone well-placed to undertake
such a broad-based analysis. As we are all driven to publish more,
the observations and challenges that Richard presents are becoming
more relevant beyond the bounds of the literature set he has chosen
to comment on. How can we justify our claims to being an author?
Are we culpable for what we do not publish as well as for what we
do? What are the main ethical issues in the fast-moving world of
academic publishing. This is a forthright book that looks at difficult
issues and is willing to suggest a pragmatic line. I'm still not
through it, but I've very much enjoyed what I've read so far.
