Second year University project designing a speaker for the home. Project aimed to produce a speaker for the bedroom environment, designed to represent music and related personal identity, using a tactile user interface to promote physical connection with music.
Intuitive tangiable user interface that has the user control volume by opening and closing the speaker box. This concept was developed through ideation and several iterations of aesthetic, proof of concept, and functional modelling produced from foam.
I manufactured a fully functional prototype using university workshops. This included production of the mechanism, and designing and assembling the electronic elements. The outer speaker was produced from beech for environmental motivations and to provide a high quality solid touchpoint for the tangible user interface. The speaker enclosure was made from MDF and developed from prototyping models to maximise space and audio quality.
