• Ambiguities :

  [ALT] =Ala or Leu or Thr
  
  {AM} any amino acid except Ala and Met.

• `-’ separator, `<` N-terminal, `>` C-terminal

• `.` end of pattern

• Repetition: x(3) = x-x-x

• x(2,4) = x-x or x-x-x or x-x-x-x.
