ABSTRACT
This paper presents a novel, systematic approach to utilising information systems in solving organisational problems. The paper reports an action research study involving the transportation division of a local government authority in the UK. Confronted with various transport related problems, these are addressed by deploying intelligent transport systems as a core component of a network management and information centre. This paper observes the critical success factors for deploying technology within appropriate organisational frameworks. Challenges presented and lessons learned are discussed and future research directions considered.
