The SIRE group has a long history of involvement in applied holography. We specialise
in laser recorded and laser replayed holograms of particulates using in-line
holography. Since 1994 we have been collaborating with Aberdeen University and
Southampton Oceanography Centre to develop techniques and instruments for the
recording of live plankton communities. In 1997 this led to the EU funded HOLOMAR
collaboration. Our most recent areas of research include analysis of the aberrations
in holographic images, calculation of the noise in holograms of particle fields, and
the use of CCD cameras to record in-line holograms of particles
(digital holography)
