An introduction to MICE

MICE is a demonstration of ionisation cooling which is being performed by an international collaboration on the ISIS accelerator at the Rutherford Laboratory in Didcot Oxfordshire. The object is to improve the intensity and reduce the spread of a muon beam so it is suitable for use in a neutrino factory or a muon collider.

It is an unusual collaboration between machine physicists and particle physicists, using detectors and analysis techniques more normally associated with particle physics to make measurements on beam properties.
