Rec.motorcycles descends on Aberystwyth

[NB: The photo-scans for this page have been lost. Some day I may be able to re-scan them...]
The last weekend in July '95 saw a number of British riders (and one Australian from Switzerland) descend on a sleepy Welsh village to taste the delights of the local roads and sheep-fields. While I haven't had the time to write up a report yet (hell, I haven't even finished writing the report of my trip to Holland last year yet!), I have been able to scan in some photos taken over that weekend.

ABERGUYS.GIF -- The Aberystwyth contingent plan the torture ahead. L-R: Marie & Mark Neal, Adny Woodwrad, and Gaz.

ABERPUB.GIF -- The gathering outside the hotel near Ponterwyd. L-R: Mike, Ged, Andy ther Pugh, Chris, Gaye, Jacqueline and Nick, with Marie, Mark and Adny plotting in the background. Foreground was supposed to be Adny's Fireblade, but the negative got screwed up at the developers.

ADNYWIN.GIF -- Adny Woodwrad in his natural habitat: perched in a niche on a high mountain wall (climbed without aids at all), lying in wait for passing mountain sheep. This is why none of the girls in Aber wear sheepskin jackets...

FIREBLAD.GIF -- Again the developers screwed up; this was a shot of Adny's Fireblade, but it has been corrupted to look like a GS500. Funnily enough, you can still see his helmet, with the plastic shopping-bag taped to the bottom as a wind-protector, and the araldite in the air-vents to keep out the Welsh rain. Background, L-R: Chris, Mike, Ged, Gaye, Jacqueline, Andy ther Pugh and Nick. One of the wide, smooth Welsh roads can be seen on the hill.

GAYE.GIF -- A distant shot of Gaye, with Nick and his Ducati beyond.

GEDMKJAQ.GIF -- Ged and Mark Hodgson try forcibly to prevent Jacqueline from driving back to Edinburgh. They were unsuccessful, and neither was awarded a JKLO#.

JACQDUCK.GIF -- The charming Jaqueline Kowtko aboard Mark Neill's Pantah. This was before Jacqueline took the bike (and several others) on a test-drive on the superhighway visible behind her, and of course before Mark scratched it up a bit a few weeks later upon encountering one of the rare curves in the area. Jacqueline Kowtko Fan Club, anyone?

ABERUKMC.GIF -- Some of the soon-to-be-founding fathers of the UKMC. ap, Mike, Ged and myself enjoying the Sunday morning sunshine.

ADNYGEEK.GIF -- Jacqueline's late-night impression of Adny, created out of a Worthington's beer-mat. (To be fair, she started out making a model of the DoD's Geeky but a random suggestion changed her mind.)

GOODBYE.GIF The crew lined up to farewell Jacqueline and her escort as they head back towards Scotland. Chris, ap, Ged, me, Mark, Gaye, Nick and Adny. You can just glimpse a small part of Jacqueline's escort in the bottom corner.

NoJKLONo.GIF Another view of Ged and Mark failing to score a JKLO#.

NIKSQUID.GIF Sunday morning at Gaz's place with Nick, Gaye, Nemesis and ap.

THEBOYS.GIF Lounging around with the Sunday Telegraph. The two Andys, Ged reclining at my feet, and Mark.

OXFORD.GIF Earlier in my trip. Having survived Norwich, the British GP and Oxford, I'm heading off towards the delights of Liverpool before proceeding on to Aberystwyth. You can see a good view of the infamous giant wood-louse and multi-coloured leathers.

MAD.GIF What we all were, to be riding on those roads. (Sticker courtesy of Performance Bikes, and presumably copyright by them. I'm quoting a small portion of their work to show what an outstanding publication it is, and as an indication of their sense of humo[u]r.)
