A three year BRITE/EURAM Framework 4 project (August 1998 - August 2001)
involving seven European partners, Amrose (Denmark), APS GmbH (Germany),
ESI S.A. (France), OSS Ltd. (Denmark), WLO AB - Volvo (Sweden), ISTRAM (Greece)
and CNMPA - University of Greenwich (UK).
The simulation research concerned both thermo-mechanical and
fluid dynamics modelling that can be associated with welding processes.
The project involved two post-doctoral research fellows and a research associate
from the University of Greenwich.
A three year CDP-EPSRC (July 95 - July 98) involving three post-doctoral research fellows. The project involved the modelling of compressible fluid flow with free surfaces, macro and micro porosity formation and non-linear material behaviour with contact mechanics. All of these complex physical phenomena can occur in the shape casting of metals. Several industrial partners were involved in the project, including BAe systems (UK).
