Research Interests
My research interests focus on understanding the use of Information Systems in Organisations, from both the organisational and human/social perspective.

Publications
I publish in a range of IS and related journals and conferences (such as EJIS, ISJ, Information Society, IJIM, ICIS, ECIS, AMCIS, IFIP 8.2). I also review and act as Track Chair, Mini-Track Chair and Associate Editor for a similar range of IS and related journals and conferences:

UKAIS Conference - Co-Chaired in 2009, 2008, 2007, 1999

ICIS 2009 - Associate Editor 'Human Behavior and IT' Track

AMCIS 2009 - Track Chair 'Philosophical Perspectives in IS'; Mini-Track Chair 'Socio-Technical Aspects of Information Systems'; Mini-Track Chair 'Social Aspects of Social Networking'; Mini-Track Chair 'Social Aspects of Public Sector Information Systems'

A listing of my academic publications can be found here.

Research Opportunities
Research is a vital part of the academic world and I am always keen to discuss possible research opportunities. If you are interested in a PhD studentship in Information Systems, in the first place please email me (laurence.brooks@brunel.ac.uk) to discuss this further. For more research opportunity information please see here.

Representation Of Organisational Knowledge For Requirements Analysis And Specification Using Cognitive Mapping
As well as using IS, I'm also interested in how we might better define requirements for IS to be more beneficial and appropriate to organisations. Look here for the project summary.

UK Academy for Information Systems (UKAIS)
I am an elected member and Past President of the national committee for UKAIS (www.ukais.org). As well as maintaining and developing the website I was the treasurer and secretary for the board.

UK Systems Society (UKSS)
I am an elected member of UKSS the national committee (www.ukss.org.uk). I am now the deputy editor for their journal, Systemist.

Previous Research Groups
Previously (and together with Chris Kimble) I headed the MIS research group, further information can be found at the Management and Information Systems Research Group web pages.

Northern Interest Group for IS and Organisations (NISG)
It appears there are enough people in "The North" interested in the area of Information Systems and Organisations to warrant trying to set up some sort of "Northern Interest Group for IS and Organisations".

In this context "The North" is probably the northern part of the UK - the general idea is that it is easier for people from "The North" to meet there than to travel down to London.

If you are interested in the general research area, i.e. Information Systems and changes in Organisations and/or Work and want to see some more details, please click here.

Northern UK Academy for Information Systems (NUKAIS)
I was the Web Master for the Northern Group of the UK Academy for Information Systems (NUKAIS). The web pages for this group can now be found http://www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/~kimble/nukais/.

Requirements Engineering
I have been a committee member for the BCS Requirements Engineering Specialist Group (RESG), who's web pages can be found at www.resg.org.uk.

I was one of the Principal Investigators for the University of York node on the RENOIR project.

I was also the publicity chairman for the IEEE Symposium on Requirements Engineering (RE '95) held in York in March 1995.

The Requirements Engineering Newsletter is also online, so why not take a look.
