I graduated in Electrical Engineering and Electronics while working for ICL in the 1960's. Returning to academia as a lecture in Computer Science in 1972 and I have remained at Brunel since then and was promoted to senior lecturer in 1988. As a Chartered Information Systems Professional I have provided international consultancy services in the development of governmental, commercial and academic systems. Organisations that have used my services include major public bodies like DERA and the ODPM.
My research work is primarily concerned with the development and evaluation of information systems to support high level professional activities. One aspect of this is to understand the various Stakeholders' views of the world, the buisness context and the decision making processes the system must support. The other aspect is the evaluation of information systems and their impact on the organisation and its business processes. In this part of my work I have worked in the Centre for Applied Simulation Modelling to develop and use business process simulation models as a means to better understand these dynamics. These interests span the following topics:
I have been co-investigator for the EPSRC supported Network for IS Evaluation (N-ISE) and continue to be involved in the network's activities. I have also recently completed an EU FP5 grant for research research to evaluate networked arbitration tribunals (E-Arbitration-T) and and, in FP4, I have developed prototype software for litigation support.
I am a regular mini-track chair at AMCIS and I am on the editorial board of the Journal for Enterprise Information Management.
