OR-Notes

J E Beasley

OR-Notes are a series of introductory notes on topics that fall under the broad heading of the field of operations research (OR). They were originally used by me in an introductory OR course I give at Imperial College. They are now available for use by any students and teachers interested in OR subject to the following conditions.

A full list of the topics available in OR-Notes can be found here.

Software details

Previous versions of OR-Notes (since their inception in 1996) have made use of a variety of software packages:

The above packages are primarily DOS based packages (although they can be used under Windows). The Windows based version of these packages is called WinQSB (also by Yih-Long Chang, but published by Wiley). My copy of this text has the ISBN 0-471-24812-6. Judging from the Wiley catalogue they appear to have the same text under the title QSB+ for Windows with ISBN 0-471-17343-6.

As from November 2000 all of the topics in OR-Notes use example output from this Windows based package.

My experience has been that changing OR-Notes to use a different software package is (usually) a relatively simple editing task.

A small number of topics make use (where appropriate) of both the above package and Solver - the add-in that comes with Microsoft Excel.
